#ChipSaverStories x #SaveAtHome | Meet Charlie*

Charlie* started her Chip journey after Googling tips on saving money while studying at university, a situation we’ve probably all been in after eating pot noodles for dinner for the fourth night in a row.

Fast forward three years, and she still hasn’t looked back.

On top of student woes, Charlie says she wasn’t able to save due to a controlling relationship, so Chip was her ‘secret account’.

Charlie’s story pays testament to a concept we feel very strongly about, being that everyone should have a F*ck Off fund. This is more than a rainy day fund, but rather putting some money aside to get you out of situations that might have been difficult without financial ammo.

We take five with Charlie to ask her how Chip served as her F*ck Off fund, and led to her travelling the world.

Thank you for (digitally) sitting down with us to share your story. Tell us how the Chip journey all started

Charlie: For the first 12 months, I had had my autosaves set to the lowest setting. My original goal was £500 but I ended up on £800! I loved it. I had to dip in and out of it for a while, but I saved way more than I thought. What I didn’t know is that Chip would save my life.

If you feel comfortable, would you like to tell us more about that?

Charlie: After leaving university I came out of a long-term abusive relationship. I wasn’t allowed to leave the home to go out with friends, I would be picked up from lectures etc.

A lot of my money went to them.

We're really sorry to hear that. So, once you realised you had the funds behind you, what did you do?

Charlie: I’m free at heart, I always wanted to go out and explore the world, so when I realised I saved more on Chip than I had intended I booked a festival abroad and a dream holiday to Iceland.

It was terrifying but in an exhilarating way and ever since then I’ve been unstoppable. I have myself back and I owe it all to Chip.

That is so brave. We are so glad we could be there for you. So, what’s next?

Charlie: My next goal is to save £2,000 in the next year, which I think will be a lot more doable this time as I’ve become better at cutting back on stuff I don’t need!

Half of my fund is to go to Finland and the other half is to go skydiving.

Not to inflate our own ego, but what is your favourite thing about Chip?

Charlie: Apart from the saving and the good interest rate, I love how supportive the app is.

There’s lot of motivational messages and everything is so easy to use!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Charlie: I would recommend this app to anyone. Regardless of what position you’re in, this app is so handy and it will change your life for the better! Thank you for changing mine Chip!
